OFFIS, the Oldenburger Forschungs- und Entwicklungsinstitut Für Informatik-Werkzeuge und Systeme, is a non profit institute associate with Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg. It was founded by the faculty of computer science of Oldenburg University and the state of Lower Saxony. OFFIS currently employs some 40 scientists, but is expected to grow up to 100 scientists during the next few years. It is partly state funded. OFFIS is organised into five research divisions, one of them being dedicated for integrated hardware-software systems. The work of this division is devoted to safe system design and IC-design methodologies and tools.
